The Ocean and Climate in a Rapidly Changing World

  • Virtual presentation by the Aquidneck Land Trust (map)

The world's oceans, and the tools oceanographers use to study them, are experiencing a period of unprecedented change that is projected to continue for several decades. In this talk, we will explore what to expect during this period of change, how oceanographers have come to understand the threats to the ocean, and what we might do to improve our collective future.

Originally from Massachusetts, Jaime Palter received her PhD in oceanography from Duke University in 2007. She then conducted oceanographic research and teaching in Spain, Princeton, and Montreal. She came home to New England to work at URI's Graduate School of Oceanography in 2015, where she is now an Associate Professor. Her work seeks to understand how ocean circulation influences climate and biogeochemistry, focusing on the North Atlantic and Gulf Stream.
